Public-records response deadlines under Texas law: (a) General PIA response: agencies must respond within 10 business days after receipt of a written request, with notice if more time is needed (extension rules and AG process apply). (b) Attorney General decision pathway for BWCs: if a governmental body seeks an AG decision on whether a requested BWC recording falls within an exception to disclosure, the request to AG is timely if made no later than the 20th business day after receipt of the written request; the AG decision is typically issued within the schedule set in the Open Records process (the 25th business day timeline referenced in the statute for timely AG review). (c) Production after AG decision or voluminous requests: if the request is voluminous, special production timelines apply (not later than the 20th business day for certain steps, with 25th business-day timelines for AG-related determinations and 20th business day for voluminous production actions).
