The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed* Los Angeles: On May 2, 2026, at around 10:00 pm, uniformed officers assigned to Central Patrol Division responded to a radio call of an assault with a deadly weapon at the 700 block of North Hill Street. Comments of the call indicated that a Hispanic male was armed with multiple knives and had pointed them at the person reporting (PR). Upon arrival, officers were directed to the suspect’s location by the PR. With the assistance of additional units, officers located the suspect and issued verbal commands to gain his compliance. The suspect failed to comply and began walking away from the officers. The officers followed and continued issuing commands as the suspect attempted to evade apprehension. During the encounter, an officer deployed an intermediate force option (40mm less-lethal launcher), striking the suspect twice. The suspect subsequently fell to the ground, complied with the officers’ commands, and was taken into custody without further use of force. Officers requested a Rescue Ambulance (RA), and personnel from the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded.
