The San Francisco Police Department has concluded its virtual town hall for the May 31, 2026, officer-involved shooting incident that occurred between uniformed San Francisco Police officers and 36-year-old Norris Reed III. The Vimeo version offers unabridged raw video, portions of which have been edited out of the YouTube version for the sake of time for the town hall. On May 31, 2026, at approximately 10:29 p.m., San Francisco Police Officers were alerted about a robbery suspect vehicle entering San Francisco from the Bay Bridge. Officers located the vehicle, with two occupants inside, traveling on 5th Street near Folsom Street. Officers attempted to conduct a vehicle stop in the area of Mission and First Streets. The suspect driver fled from officers, leading to a vehicle pursuit. The suspect driver fled through city streets before the vehicle became disabled in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Jerrold Avenue. When officers encountered the vehicle, the driver opened fire on SFPD officers and struck one officer multiple times. During the encounter, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect driver fled on foot from the scene, and the passenger of the suspect vehicle sustained injuries from the shooting. SFPD officers quickly transported both the injured officer and the injured suspect to a local hospital. The SFPD officer is being treated for life-threatening injuries. The suspect is also being treated for life-threatening injuries. Additional officers responded to the scene to search for the outstanding suspect. Officers located the suspect in the area of Bayshore Boulevard and Costa Street and took him into custody without incident. Officers also recovered two firearms. This incident is being investigated by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office; the San Francisco Police Department Investigative Services Division (ISD); the San Francisco Police Department Internal Affairs Division (IAD); and the Department of Police Accountability (DPA). All information is preliminary and may be subject to change. This remains an open and active investigation.
