Thin Blue Lenz Neutral Summary
On April 4, 2026 at about 7:00 p.m., Tucson Police Department officers from Operations Division West responded to a 911 call about an individual throwing rocks at passing cars in the 1000 block of West Miracle Mile. Officers encountered a male in the roadway; the male produced an edged implement and began to harm himself. Officers deployed less-lethal devices to stop him, but were unsuccessful. The man fled toward a nearby business; officers positioned themselves to prevent access to the business and deployed additional less-lethal devices, which subdued him. First aid was administered on scene, and the Tucson Fire Department transported him to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving measures, the individual succumbed to his injuries. The Pima Regional Critical Incident Team (PRCIT) has been activated to handle the criminal investigation, with the Pima County Sheriff’s Department as the lead investigating agency for the criminal portion. The Tucson Police Department will conduct a parallel internal review to determine if policy violations occurred. The video release is part of the PRCIT process.
