Nevada treats body-worn camera (BWC) footage as a public record under the Nevada Public Records Act, but with important confidentiality checks. Agencies must equip officers with BWCs and field policies on their use, including minimum 15-day retention. Public release is generally allowed on an incident-by-incident basis, but footage containing an officer’s face or other confidential elements can be redacted or inspected only at the holding location if redaction isn’t feasible. Officer faces in BWC are expressly confidential under NRS 289.025, and the Nevada Supreme Court in Conrad v. Reno PD confirmed that faces can be redacted from BWC footage. Public access is fast-tracked: agencies must respond within five business days or provide a written schedule for release; public-records requests can be challenged in district court under NPRA (NRS 239.011) if denied. Researchers should expect the per-incident release approach, with potential redactions of facial features per NRS 289.025 and the Conrad decision, and must be prepared for a 5-business-day response timeline and possible on-site viewing when redactions are not feasible.
